Stevenson Music Studio
About
I teach viola and violin lessons in the Carmel and northern Indianapolis area to students ages 7 and up, and enjoy curating the lesson curriculum to each student’s abilities and interests, whether they be more interested in classical music, fiddling, or movie themes.
The goal is to keep practice fun and interesting, while developing proper playing technique and music theory understanding. I've coached group sectionals in the Washington, Franklin Township, Zionsville, Carmel, and Fishers school districts, taught in outreach programs for the Butler Community Arts School, and now hold a studio at Meridian Music School. My students have gone on to perform in the Butler Adult Strings Ensemble, Indianapolis Youth Orchestras, Indiana All-State Honor Orchestras, and Side-by-Side with the Indianapolis Symphony. I have had students go on to major in music at Ball State University and IU Bloomington.
I hold a BA in Music from Butler University in Indianapolis, specializing in viola performance. My teachers have included Richard Auldon Clark, Dr. Lisa Brooks, Francesco Borali, Silva Costanza, Kathryn Hershberger, and Laura Crawford.
I began playing viola at the age of ten with my middle school orchestra. I found a talent for teaching when, in high school, I taught a friend to play the viola well enough to join the school orchestra. While in college, I studied in Milan, Italy with the concertmaster of the Milano Metropolitan Orchestra, Francesco Borali. Now, I enjoy performing for weddings and events with The Deoc Ensemble, and concerts with regional orchestras such as the Anderson Symphony, Orchestra Indiana (Formerly the Muncie Symphony and Marion Philharmonic), Lafayette Symphony, Columbus IN Symphony, and Danville Symphony. Recently, I joined the Booth Tarkington Civic Theater for their production of Jesus Christ Superstar, and was the violist of the string quartet in folk singer Carrie Newcomer’s Midwest concert tour.
Outside of work, I love to read, take dance lessons, try out local restaurants, and spend time with my husband, Tim (a piano teacher at Meridian) and my cat, Autumn.
