About
Hello! My name is Paul Covington. My goal at Covington Piano Lessons is to provide quality instruction on piano to various levels of students. I have years of teaching experience with both children and adults. I am currently completing my Instrumental Music Education degree at Marian University. This experience has enabled me many opportunities to instruct students at various grade levels on a variety of instruments, of which piano is my primary personal instrument. I will graduate in the fall of 2019. I was the first keyboard player for the Marian University marching band the last two years, in addition to concert band during the spring semesters. I am a classically trained pianist, but have also played a variety of styles, including: jazz, popular music, gospel, and musicals. My emphasis is in classical music, however. I have performed in many musicals, churches, bands, and other accompaniant jobs throughout my life. I also perform solo quite frequently. I am skilled at reading music and understanding theory/history of music, which enables me to improvise, use my ear, and understand, structurally the music I am playing. I have played piano for over 25 years and truly love performing and making music. I look forward to serving the Indianapolis area and to impart a joy of making music to my students.
I greatly enjoy seeing people develop their skills as musicians. As a consequence of this, I can see their joy when my students perfect their craft and produce beautiful music. Training of musical ability contributes to brain development in children, in addition to the emotional/psychological benefits of the music itself. I love to be a part of this important aspect of education.
