Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first time we meet is free. At that time I will give details about my studio and assess how best to teach that student. Then I suggest music to purchase so we can jump right in.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a master's degree in music education from the University of North Texas. I have many years of experience teaching privately and in schools.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $25 per half hour lesson, $35 per 45 minute lesson, and $50 per hour lesson. I usually teach beginners half hour lessons. Hour lessons are reserved for advanced students.
How did you get started teaching?
I've been teaching all my life, but have honed my skills throughout the years by education and experience.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with all ages and all levels. I will teach as young as three years old if the student has enough attention span, interest, and fine motor development. I also enjoy teaching seniors who have some time on their hands and would like to learn to express themselves musically. On the other end of the spectrum, I love teaching college level students, coaching them to achieve a high level of artistry and technique.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
One of my preschool students gave me a big hug and said, "You're a good teacher!"
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for credentials and experience. Meet the teacher and assess whether your personalities are compatible.
