My kids have been taking lessons with Janelda for over 4 years now. I really appreciate how patient she is with my girls and how encouraging and positive she is in her teaching methods. They are learning both a practical lesson in playing piano/music theory, and a life lesson in how disciplined practice brings about mastery. Highly recommended!

Our 9-year old daughter, Lily, has loved being a student of Janeldas for this past year. Lily came to Janelda with no experience, and within a few months Lily was playing a piece for us at a recital. Janelda is always encouraging and warm with Lily in her teaching style, and Ive seen my daughters confidence increase as a result of this. Weve given Lily the opportunity to try many different activities to see what interests her the most, and she has stuck with piano in large part due to the relationship and fun she has with Janelda. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for an experienced piano teacher.

As a senior adult piano student, Janelda has the patience of a saint. She is always providing words of encouragement, which put me at ease immediately even when encountering material that is difficult to learn. Simply from her demeanor, one can tell that she truly loves music and wishes to instill the same in her students. She goes out of her way to explain the background of various composers, as well as how music has changed throughout time. I highly recommend this instructor.

Janelda is a fantastic instructor! Ive had the pleasure of working with her for almost a year now and Ive actually learned more from her than all of my other years combined through school, various instructors, etc.
I am an adult student and Janelda has always made it a point to learn at my own pace. Shes very passionate about music and goes in depth about composers and pieces to really tie the lesson together.
I highly recommend her to anyone just beginning or advanced!

Mrs. Janelda is so patient and wonderful with our kids who are 4 and 7. She does a great job of keeping them on task but in a way that they find fun! We look forward to many more lessons with her!

Frequently asked questions

The first time we meet is free.  At that time I will give details about my studio and assess how best to teach that student.  Then I suggest music to purchase so we can jump right in.

I have a master's degree in music education from the University of North Texas.  I have many years of experience teaching privately and in schools.

I charge $25 per half hour lesson, $35 per 45 minute lesson, and $50 per hour lesson.  I usually teach beginners half hour lessons.  Hour lessons are reserved for advanced students.

I've been teaching all my life, but have honed my skills throughout the years by education and experience.

I work with all ages and all levels.  I will teach as young as three years old if the student has enough attention span, interest, and fine motor development.  I also enjoy teaching seniors who have some time on their hands and would like to learn to express themselves musically.  On the other end of the spectrum, I love teaching college level students, coaching them to achieve a high level of artistry and technique.

One of my preschool students gave me a big hug and said, "You're a good teacher!"

Look for credentials and experience.  Meet the teacher and assess whether your personalities are compatible.
