About

Hello,

I am a professional violinist and violin teacher with over 25 years of experience.

Currently, I am a doctoral candidate at Indiana University Bloomington Jacobs School of Music, majoring in Violin Performance and Literature. During my time at IU, I served as an assistant instructor, teaching the violin at IU. Also, I am actively playing at the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Indiana Chamber Orchestra (affiliated with Butler University), and Carmel Symphony Orchestra.

I am currently offering violin lessons in the Carmel area and am open to accepting new students near downtown Indianapolis. I have extensive experience teaching individuals of all ages, from 5-year-olds to adults. Whether you are pursuing the violin as a hobby, preparing for middle/high school orchestra, or seeking professional practice, I am here to work with you!

You can listen to my playing on my YouTube channel:

In addition to violin, I offer teach Music Theory, Piano, and Viola up to an intermediate level. I hold double minors in Music Theory at Indiana University Bloomington Jacobs School of Music.

If you are looking for a dedicated and experienced instructor, feel free to reach out. I am enthusiastic about sharing my passion for music and look forward to the opportunity to work with you.

Thank you for your interest, and I hope to see you in person soon!

Shes a kind and patient teacher even to total beginners. Shes adaptable and was quick to switch to online teaching during the COVID19 pandemic. Shes willing to listen to the students thoughts and can think of other opportunities that may be beneficial to the student. Working with Minji has been a wonderful and educational experience as a beginner in violin.

Since the beginning of our lesson, she instantly recognized my weaknesses and helped me improve throughout our lessons. I really enjoyed working with her because she knew how to fix my weaknesses, help me improve my violin skills and more. She is also very patient, kind, detailed, and an amazing violin player and a teacher. I was very lucky to have her as my teacher.

I learned from MinJi since I was a beginner and really had a great experience! MinJi is great at guiding you step by step on how to begin with the violin. Although I had no idea how to start in the beginning, MinJi guided me with patience and I was able to learn a lot. I would 100% recommend for any ages and especially beginners!

    Frequently asked questions

I want to make a good raptor with students before working with a new student. I want to know what students want to get from the lesson with me. And I like to set a goal for the lessons with students.
And then I observe the student's playing first if he/she is not a beginner, and make a plan for each of student. This is because everyone has different body conditions, so I want to teach a students in a personalized way.

I am currently teaching the violin at Indiana University Bloomington Jacobs School of Music as an assistant instructor. I have 5-6 students each semester, and give the weekly private lesson.

Also, since 2011, I have had some experience to teach beginners, high school students who played at the high school band, and little kids.

Private lesson at my place is available from August 2021. It is in Avon,IN. The hourly price is $60, and 30minutes price is $30.

If a students is a beginner, I start to teach with basic stuff first. It is okay if you can't read the music score at all. I can teach step by step all about the playing the violin.

If a student can play the violin, I start to teach by observing his/her playing. We can talk what we will work on at the future lessons.

Middle/high school students who want to be a professional violinist

I had one of my doctoral recitals in March 2021. You can check it out at my YouTube channel. youtube.com/minjikimviolin

    Professionality and kindness.

Students need to practice by themselves to learn the violin. I can let you know how to practice, but the practicing at least 3 times a week is very essential to learn.
