Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We bring the prospect to our facility to give them a tour, get them in their own uniform so they feel included in the class, let them try a class so they can see what are classes are like, and then have a one on one conference with an instructor to go over the strengths we saw, the areas we would like to work on, and then to talk with the parents to see how the child behaves at home and at school. Then we ask what the parents would like from the program. After all of that we choose the class that would best meet those needs.
Teens and Adults we will talk directly to them about what they want to get out of the program.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
We have been a part of the Martial Arts Industry Association for many years where we receive ongoing training in the classroom, as well as, with our programing.
Our instructors have been certified in child development through Shuman Concepts.
Our martial arts training which is ongoing is through Dillman Karate International, Small Circle Jujitsu with Wally and Leon Jay, and Modern Arnis with Remi Presas and now Ken Smith.
We are also a certified school for XMA and Hyper Pro training.
We do ongoing business training with Dave Ramsey's Entreleadership.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Our pricing is based on programs so the pricing will depend on the program that best fits the student.
How did you get started teaching?
We are a family owned business with an entire family being apart of the martial arts. We started by just taking classes and eventually started helping with classes. At which time our instructor wanted to move and sell his dojo and we were asked to purchase it.
We purchased his dojo in 1999 and the rest is history. We quickly sought out the top instructors in our style in the martial arts, and also in business. And we believe you never stop training and learning.
What types of students have you worked with?
We have worked with alot of different students through the years from ADD, ADHD, autism, children dealing with divorce, children having trouble in school, children needing to learn to focus, bullying issues
We have also address kids and adults that need to work on weight loss, stress relief, a safe place to develop friendships and much more.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
We are very active in our community. My favorite would have to be Relay for Life. We provide a fundraising booth, demonstrations for the walkers, and we walk during the event. I love how our students come together to support a wonderful cause that helps so many people.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure that the environment is a positive one that lifts up the student and encourages them on their progress. You want to be able to relate to your instructors and the staff at the facility and they are very approchable. It should be a welcoming place to be that if you are there to watch a class, you feel relaxed and glad to be there.
The instructors and the staff should be there to support you and help you accomplish the goals that you have set for yourself or your children, and there should be a mutually acceptable plan to achieve those goals.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Does the instructors have the same belief and value system that I have?
Are the instructors good role models for me or my child?
What am I looking to gain by taking martial arts classes?
How specifically can the instructors help you and your family?
