    Frequently asked questions

The typical process for working with a new student starts with an initial consultation to determine their goals, skill level, and musical interests. This allows me to customize the lessons and ensure that I am meeting their specific needs. Next, I assign the student to a suitable instructor who will provide personalized and comprehensive lessons. My lessons are tailored to each student's needs and incorporate a variety of teaching methods to ensure that they are engaged and motivated. I also provide regular progress reports to students and their families to ensure that they are on track to achieving their goals. Throughout the learning process, I encourage communication between the instructor and student to ensure that they are satisfied with the pace of their lessons and their overall progress. My instructors are available to answer any questions and provide additional support as needed. I am committed to providing the best possible music education experience. My goal is to help each of my students reach their full potential and achieve their musical aspirations.
I have a wealth of education and training in music that relates to my work. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Music and certificates in violin, performance, and chamber music coaching from renowned institutions such as the New England Conservatory of Music, the Conservatory at Rivers, the Apple Hill Center for Chamber Music, and Hampshire College, where I graduated in 1985. Since opening my music school in 1986, I have dedicated myself to providing the highest quality music education to my students. I have extensive experience in private lessons, teaching adults and mature teenagers through NCMC in Northampton, KCMC in Keene, BCMC in Belchertown, and even online. My vast knowledge and experience make me a valuable resource for my students, helping them to reach their full potential. In addition to my teaching experience, I am a talented musician myself. I play the fiddle with Celticado, a traditional Celtic duo, the mandolin with The Americana Project, a bluegrass band, and the mandocello with L'Esperance, a mandolin orchestra based in Providence, Rhode Island. I have toured the world, performing music for audiences in Europe, Ireland, Egypt, China, and South Korea, further enhancing my musical abilities and expertise. In conclusion, my education and training, combined with my years of experience in the music industry and my passion for music education, make me a highly qualified and experienced music teacher. I am dedicated to helping my students achieve their musical goals and reach their full potential.

Before speaking with me, it is important for students to think through their needs and goals in order to get the most out of their lessons. Here are some questions that students may want to consider before speaking with me: 1 What are your musical goals and aspirations? Do you want to learn a specific instrument, genre of music, or simply improve your overall musicianship? 2. What is your experience level? Are you a beginner, intermediate, or advanced player? 3. What is your learning style? Do you prefer private lessons, group lessons, or a combination of both? 4. What is your schedule like? How often do you want to have lessons and at what times? 5. What is your budget for lessons? 6. Are there any special needs or accommodations that you require, such as a teacher who is trained to work with individuals who have social and learning challenges? 7. What do you expect from a music teacher? What qualities or characteristics are you looking for in a teacher? By considering these questions, students can get a clearer picture of what they are looking for in a music teacher and be better equipped to communicate their needs when speaking with me as a potential instructor. At my music school, I am passionate about helping students reach their full potential and am dedicated to providing personalized and comprehensive music education to meet the unique needs and goals of each of my students.
