Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
• Drum Kit: We cover all aspects of drumming from correct drum kit setup and placement for the students to beginner to advanced playing. We use oral traditions and singing of the rhythms as well as western notation. It is not necessary to read music to play drums however it is a good way to communicate basic musical ideas and remember them. It also prepares you for any future drumming work where you may be required to read musical charts.
• Djembe or conga: We are experts on these as well and have travelled to study with the real deal Masters. We teach the real deal. Private or class study. Adults or children.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been a drummer for 50 years! From marching band to Guinea, Mali, The Gambia, Morocco and other countries. Taught at Berklee College of Music and Masters at NE Conservatory. Played in many well known bands in the Rock, Fusion and Punk genres. Also a student of jazz and studdies with Alan Dawson, Joe Hunt, Joe Morello, Freddie Buda, Vic Firth.
Mainly, I have sat at the feet of many masters of the drums from great rock and roll drummers, big band drummers, jazz guys, African masters and learned about the drum and the spirit. I offer that to you!

How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching drums when I was 11 years old! Had a fully booked Saturday at my parents basement in Waltham, MA USA home of some great drummers! (Must have been the water!).
Over the years I have taught across the US and Canada as well as teaching in Guinea and The Gambia, West Africa.
Using methods I have learned from fantastic teachers and great drummers, I created my own system based of that. I work with each student differently to accomodate learning styles.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages, all genres, many countries, different languages. Ages 3 yrs to 80+ years. We also work with patients at Perkins School and Beverley School for the Deaf, major Hospitals and longterm care facilities as McLean Hospital, Emerson Hospital and new realationship with Children's Hospital. We also have a spectrum program for austic folk.
