I'm a late bloomer when it comes to playing the guitar. It took me years of perseverance to get my playing to a respectable level of competency. Because of my deep desire to learn how to play, I was able to truly understand and experience all the many pitfalls that lied ahead. Many of the things I have learned I wish I learned earlier in my development as it would have saved me years of time. I have been fortunate to have some very good teachers and this has helped greatly in building my confidence and seeing another perspective. The guitar is an amazing instrument. It has a wonderfully versatile sound, is portable and universal in its tone. ... View Profile

Some people are born to make music. I believe anyone can learn to play guitar or ukulele, learn to write songs, learn to sing. It just takes the right teacher. I am a touring Delta blues and gospel musician. I have played in festivals in Europe and the US, have had music licensed to PBS, taught guitar, songwriting, ukulele and voice in bandcamps and after school programs for over 10 years, as well as giving private lessons. If you are discouraged and think you can't master an instrument, I can help!  You can check out my music at http://www.robinoherin.comIt has links to facebook, reverbnation, spotify, youtube and more. ... Schramm's Guitar Shop

As someone who has been playing and performing guitar for over 8 years, I understand the significance of a good guitar teacher. Having someone equally or even more committed to bettering your performance is very important, and I bring that level of committment to each and every person that I teach. I ensure that my students have a complete understanding of the concepts that they learned by the end of each lesson. I first began teaching two years ago with younger, more impatient students aged K-8, which is where I learned that patience, cooperation, and attention to detail are key to teaching. I promise to give all of my students these qualiti ... View Profile

Frequently asked questions

How much do guitar lessons cost?

The average cost for guitar lessons is $40 per hour. Available for all ages and all skill levels of guitar playing, the pricing of individual or group guitar lessons can start as low as $20/hour. Teachers charge based on their location, years of teaching, levels of knowledge and expertise, and travel time (if applicable). Lessons can last from half an hour to a full hour, and are priced accordingly.

How long does it take to learn guitar?

If you just want to learn a few chords to strum along to some songs, then learning to play the guitar really isn't that hard for most people. Many students are able to learn a few chords and get a decent strumming pattern going after a few weeks. If you've had prior experience playing an instrument, you can expect to pick it up after just a few lessons.

Should I take guitar lessons online or in person lessons?

Private in person guitar lessons with a skilled instructor that is focused on you, your interests, and your progress is the most sought after experience and hard to replicate online. Plus, you tend to learn faster in person. On the other hand, online guitar lessons are quickly becoming popular. The selection of teachers is not limited to those in your geographical area and you can communicate via video in real time with your teacher in the comfort of your home. When filling out your request on Lessons.com, we recommend you select both online and local options, then compare your options and see what works best for you.

How old should children be before starting guitar lessons?

A child as young as 4 can begin to learn if they are really motivated and have a patient, creative, and devoted teacher. However, we've found almost all kids under six are too young to benefit from formal guitar lessons, as they require dexterity and levels of concentration children their age can't provide. That being said, lessons do not need to be formal right off the bat, and can just provide a fun introduction. Also, your child may benefit from using a ukulele to start, as it's smaller and easier to learn, but very similar instrument.
