About

Fostering a fondness and appreciation for music, the violin, and the art of music-making is the ultimate goal at Charm City Violin. As such, all students, regardless of talent or ability, are appreciated, positively motivated, and celebrated. I am of the mind that being able to play, or even listen to, music should be, above all, a source of joy. By exploring, experiencing, and mastering the challenges and different facets of music-making - in this case playing the violin - a teacher and student can, first-hand, begin and ideally continue, to experience this joy together.

My teaching style is nothing if not dynamic and energetic. I can honestly say that introducing students' eyes and ears to the subtleties and intricacies of instrumental mastery is exhilarating and infinitely rewarding to me each and every lesson. I believe that this excitement and fascination is contagious and passed-on to my students, and accounts for why so very many have studied, and enjoyed, lessons for years at-a-time.

I absolutely love witnessing students discover and explore the myriad challenges and joys of playing a musical instrument! Helping students to advance and be able to do things they did not think or know were possible is a great joy and reward for me as a teacher.

Rachael is a passionate musician and a patient, dedicated, and skillful teacher. She seems to truly enjoy passing her love of music on to her students. I highly recommend her as a violin teacher for all ages!!!

    Frequently asked questions

We would likely first have a free trial lesson for both student and I to see how it would be to work together.  Then, presumably after enjoying working together thoroughly, we would talk about goals for future progress and plans for scheduling regular lessons!

I have a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Violin Performance.  Additionally, I have been teaching privately for 20+ years in Baltimore.  I am a member of the Harrisburg and Annapolis Symphony Orchestras, and have been free-lance performing in and around Baltimore for 25 years.

    40 minute lessons:  $45

    60 minute lesson:     $65

My father, and grandfather were both violin teachers.  I started out first as a violin coach for Baltimore County public schools, as well as teaching for area private schools. Since 1998, I have had and operated my home studio in Baltimore, teaching both piano and violin lessons.

ALL types, ages, and skill levels!   I've even taught a deaf student to play violin!  Young; old; beginner; intermediate; advanced; very serious; recreational....you name it!

Talk to, read about, and most importantly try to meet with that teacher before deciding if he/she is the right fit for you.

Students should consider expectations for practice and progress.  They might also want to ask what music and repertoire the teacher might typically assign/use for teaching.  Scheduling considerations should also be discussed, in addition to playing and/or performance opportunities outside of regularl lessons.
