Hello everyone! My name is CJ. I have been playing since the age of 13 where my passion for music was exposed and expressed through keys. I play from a place of passion and I help students to find this same passion within themselves. Whether you have never played the piano or consider yourself an intermediate player, I will teach you the skills necessary to play through passion. Because I can teach students to learn from sheet music AND uncovering their "ear" for music, students leave each lesson with a sense of accomplishment and confidence in their potential.

I have taught in Detroit from 1960 to 1989, and in the Washington D.C. area ever since. I sing with the Congressional Chorus--a professional group of 80 voices-- and have commissioned two works from national composers for us .I had many National winners in the American Guild of Music competition and the Michigan Music Association. Some of my students have made music their profession. I teach many adults as well as children, in classical, pop, R and B, jazz, and church music----piano, organ, and voice.. I am often called upon to "scat" sing for our chorus and have written 6 part arrangements fo
I personally have never taught formal piano lessons. I have taught friends and family on occasion for fun. I have 16 years of consistent piano experience with sight reading, playing by ear, classical music, contemporary music, all major and minor scales as a general start of my knowledge of the instrument. I was taught under a professional pianist who was renowned in Latvia for her talent as a pianist. Teaching is a passion and skill of mine, and it is very rewarding to see my efforts to pass on my knowledge reveal themselves.
In order to suit the needs of my students, first I will evaluate
I've been a full-time professional musician/vocalist and teacher for over 12 years. Currently, I sing with a big band, perform as a jazz vocalist and as a singer-songwriter (accompanying myself on piano). My style is in the vein of Norah Jones, Eva Cassidy and Adele. My trademark is big, heart-filled vocals and tasteful/lush piano accompaniment.
My students currently range in age from 5 to 73 (yes, really!), and include professional performers, singers preparing for auditions and "special needs" students. (My double major in school was in psychology and music.) I have several students t

Each year students participate in piano parties, theory exams, keyboard exams, chamber festival, recitals and perform for community events throughout the year. It's time well-spent!! Spanish lessons include grammar and mostly listening and conversation. Lessons are designed for students to learn to speak and understand the language rather than only maste
I believe that music instruction should be enjoyable, built on a solid technical foundation, inspire creativity, and match each individual's goals.

People want to play piano for many different reasons; there as many different goals and dreams as there are piano students. Some learn to play piano for their own person
