About this pro

I will teach students from grade 5 through adults.  Basic experience (1 to 2 years) is preferred, although I will consider working with beginners on a case by case basis.  I taught instrumental music, including string specialist work, for 33 years full time and three years part time in the Maryland public schools.  I have been a professional freelance musician for the past 51 years (and am still actively performing!)

My professional performing experience through online bookings can be found at:

I have ALWAYS enjoyed working with enthusiastic and motivated students!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I interview them to assess their interests, goals and motivation.  Then I have them play a prepared piece, if they already have experience.  This may take up to 40 minutes of the first hour-long lesson.  I only teach for one hour (60 minutes) at a time.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

2 years of high school at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Interlochen, Michigan, 1963-65

BS in Music Education from the University of Maryland at College Park, 1971 (violin major)

4 summers of graduate music education at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD

APC (Advanced Professional Certificate), renewed, from the Maryland State Department of Education
