Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Before even touching the violin or the bow, it is important to know their different "body parts". For example, a student may be confused if I ask them to drape their fingers over the frog of the bow. Knowing the name of each part of the instrument is crucial for playing.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have five years of experience practicing in my elementary and middle school orchestras (fourth grade through eighth grade). During my seventh and eighth grade years, I played in my middle school chamber orchestra, and even played in the high school orchestra on several occasions. After I graduated from middle school, I have been homeschooled and have been practicing violin for four additional years on my own (for a total of nine years' experience). One of my biggest regrets was not having a private tutor for violin, which is why I would like to help kids just beginning with the instrument.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My standard price is $20/hour. However, I also teach half-hour lessons, each at $10.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
In April 2019, I volunteered to play in a talent show at Ashby Ponds, a retirement community in Ashburn. I played "Themes from the Moldau" by Bedrich Smetana, and everyone (I hope) enjoyed my performance!
