What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Relating with the student and making a connection. By talk about our passion of cooking & eating food and playing sports while traveling the world. Asking questions and finding out common interrests.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Culinary traing at CHIC (Cooking Hospitality in Chicago) and Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, France and Sydney, Australia.
Teaching tennis at Club Med in Lindeman Island, Australia and Ixtapa, Mexico. And Heritage Tennis Club in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
How did you get started teaching?
I was asked to teach a culinary class at the Williams-Sonoma store in Wheaton and Oak Brook, Illinois back in 1996.
I was introduced to teaching tennis at Club Med in Lindeman Island, Australia in 2005.
What types of students have you worked with?
All ages and all backgrounds.
At Heritage Tennis Club. I taught Buddy Up Tennis to kids with Down Syndrome.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am fond of empowering volunteers and students at Buddy Up Tennis so that they are confident in all aspects of their life.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
It's not all about the knowledge its about making a connection and giving them the confidence to learn and grow as a person.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Ask yourself what do I want to gain from learning something new? They need to have the desire and passion from within.
