Katie S. Violin
About
I have been playing violin for over sixteen years and have been teaching for over six. I am currently a student at the University of Michigan School of Music and enjoy helping others fulfill their full potential with music. I have taught students at all levels and from ages three and up. I grew up learning classical violin, but have since branched out into jazz and fiddle and am even in an Irish band! I am currently Concertmaster of the Michigan Pops Orchestra and regularly play with the Kalisi Trio. In addition to teaching and performing regularly, I am available to tutor music theory as well.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I will assess the student's starting level and find a holistic method that will work well with the student's needs. While I have taught beginners, I do not recommend video lessons for people who are trying to start the violin. I try to find a good balance of fun repertoire, technique exercises, and work diligently to perfect posture.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelors degree in Violin Performance from The University of Michigan, School of Music, Theater, and Dance. In addition, have pedagogy training specifically related to violin.
