About
I can help aspiring pianists and musicians to gain a foundational understanding of music theory and structure, from chords and scales to music reading, while developing an ear for sound, learning playing techniques, and exploring a wide range of music from the baroque, classical, and romantic, to the modern eras of music. I have been studying music since the age of six, with 12 years of private piano lessons in Ann Arbor, and I have background historical knowledge to give the music more context. I also participated as a bass voice in a highschool choir that won state-level competitions and attended international music festivals abroad.
I enjoy the opportunity for creative expression and discovery that comes with music study. Music is a subject area that engages both left and right brain thinking. It allows for the expression of emotion and creativity, while also having a foundational structure and methodolology. Students will be exposed to a wide variety of music and new ideas.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first thing I want to do is get to know each student better in order to evaluate the student's musical background, proficiency, and particular areas of interest or focus. Next, I would set up convenient and agreeable meeting times and places for lessons. As lessons progress, I would assign or recommend appropriate music, concepts, and materials for study and practice outside of lessoin time that reinforce the ideas being taught during the lesson.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
12 years of private piano lessons, participation in a high school choir that won state-level competitions and attended international music festivals abroad. I have earned a bachelor's in business administration, with an elective class covering the history of American popular music. I also have some experience teaching in a larger classroom setting.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
