About

As you begin studyng with me using the Suzuki piano method, you will learn to play music beautifully with ease and grace. You will gain confidence in your ability as you master your music step by step. You will find yourself developing amazing technique, a tool which will enable esquisite musical expression. You will easily create a "singing" tone to speak your musical language clearly with meaning. You will be able to express the emotions of the human soul. You will learn to sing the stories and beauty of life through your piano.

I am blessed to participate in the growth and development of children from the womb to high school graduation and beyond! I enjoy planting a musical seed within each person. Along with parents and our studio family, we nurture the growth of that musical sprout and enjoy the student blossom into a noble human being. Being a "gardener" in a student's life, assisting parents and family to "nurture by love", and seeing the student's character grow so that they lovingly share with their world the beauty of life and in their way begin to make our world a better place to live -- this brings me incredible joy and satisfaction!

I really enjoyed the recitals and the gold cups.   It was always nice to be rewarded for hard work!  Overall, I know that the Suzuki method really helped me advance quickly because I was always more advanced than my friends taking other lessons.  Knowing that I was actually good at something was the biggest motivation.

I loved the Suzuki music!  I still go through the last few books when I have the chance.  I think the structure of the program and variety in music was excellent.

Through high school, I was self motivated because I was able to pick pieces I wanted to play based on my skills I had learned in the Suzuki program.  I was able to learn Chopin, my favorite composer of all time.  :)  I also was able to compete in piano competitions and one concerto competition for the GR Youth Symphony.  I know for a fact that I wouldnt have been able to get to that level without the proper training that I received with the Suzuki program.

I have taught piano for 50 years, Suzuki piano since 1980. I am an education graduate of Cornerstone University and Calvin University.  I have completed Suzuki Association of America sanctioned training and am certified for all levels.  My is with Haruko Kataoka, co-founder of the Suzuki Piano Method and observing Dr. Shinichi Suzuki teach. I served at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp as Suzuki Piano Program Director and Instructor for 30 years.  For the St.Cecilia Piano Camp, I designed and taught the Music History curriculum for 8 years. The Suzuki philosophy was implemented in our home as we raised our four children.  Three of our four adult children are now professional Suzuki teachers. I have accompanied adult and youth choirs, soloists, instrumentalists. I served as accompanist for the GRCC Suzuki String Outreach program for 10 years.

I have successfully taught students as young as 2 yrs old on up to 82 yrs young.  My specialty is adapting to the students needs and working in developmentally appropriate ways, always listening and processing the students needs.  I have worked   with many blind students for decades as well as those with special learning needs and limited physical capabilities.  I absolutely love assisting adult students, age 16 to well past retirement age learn and enjoy making their own music.
