About this pro

I strive to create a fun and encouraging atmosphere while working towards excellence.  My experience includes a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, K - 12 music instruction, high school piano class instruction and small choir director and finally, private music instructor of all ages.  All totalled I've been teaching music about 13 years.  But I also have experience teaching preschool about 4 years.

I most enjoy working with beginners.  It's so exciting to see the transformation from nonplayer/singer to performer!  I also like to find music that matches the student 's interests and incorporate it into my instruction.

Kate is a wonderful music teacher! When my daughter transitioned to virtual piano lessons during the pandemic, Kate did not miss a beat. Kate's instruction is both engaging and effective. Aside from being a skilled and talented musician providing excellent instruction, Kate also encourages her students participate in music selections and in setting personal goals. The virtual piano recital was terrific; it was particularly nice because grandparents and family member who live away were able to participate. Thank you Kate, for being a bright, happy note in our lives!

Kate is amazing and very patient. She is passionate about teaching and every lesson is a mix of working on strengths but also working on weakness. Everything is balanced and fun. She doesn’t have set expectations for improvement, which is huge in removing any pressure in learning some people may have. She is encouraging every step of the way. She’s flexible and an absolute gem of a teacher! Highly recommended!!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

In the first lesson I ask about your exeperience and goals.  From there I choose a book or two for you to purchase for use during lessons and home practice.  We'll begin right away with exercies for the vocal students and with a simple tune or two for the piano and violin students.
