About

I’m a classically trained piano teacher with over 25 years of experience helping students grow not just as musicians, but as whole people. My approach blends structure with warmth, encouraging consistent progress while honoring each student’s individuality.

I believe in teaching music with emotional intelligence - offering instruction in a way that makes students feel empowered rather than corrected. My students know that mistakes are not failures, but opportunities for learning and expression. Because of this, they often grow in confidence, focus, and resilience - skills that extend far beyond the piano bench.

I create an atmosphere of calm structure and thoughtful engagement. Lessons are not rushed. Feedback is clear and specific, but always delivered in a way that leaves dignity intact. I want my students to feel safe enough to take risks, try again, and discover their own voice through music.

Whether a student is highly driven or simply learning for the joy of it, I meet them where they are and help them move forward at a pace that challenges without overwhelming. Many of my students stay with me for years, and the relationships we build are part of what makes this work meaningful to me.

I specialize in classical repertoire, performance preparation, and thoughtful long-term musical development.

I have enjoyed working with Dr. Low for the past three years and highly recommend him to anyone interested in piano lessons. His knowledge and musicianship have truly made a difference in my playing. He is patient and encouraging while still challenging me to improve. I know Im a better pianist because of his guidance, and my family and friends have noticed the difference in my playing as well.

What makes Dr. Low exceptional is his patience and his ability to teach children in a way that truly connects. He has a gift for breaking down concepts so that kids not only learn them but genuinely understand them. His encouraging approach builds confidence and helps students develop a real love for playing the piano.
He also goes well beyond the weekly lesson. He invests extra time helping his students prepare for piano contests and performances, making sure they feel confident and ready. His commitment to each student’s growth and success is clear in everything he does

My son did lessons with Dr. Low for 13 years. He picked appropriate music for his skill level. Not only did he teach music but also the mechanics of the hand and how to do exercises to increase his mobility. We loved every moment of working with Dr. Low

My daughter was fortunate to study piano with Dr. Low for eight years. He is a truly dedicated and inspiring teacher. Dr. Low holds high expectations for every student - not just in terms of technical skill but also in musicality, discipline, and personal growth.
Lessons go far beyond playing notes accurately. Students are taught to pay attention to every aspect of their performance including how to communicate the depth and character of the music. Additionally, Dr. Low actively encourages participation in recitals, competitions, and exams.
If you are seeking a teacher who combines rigor with encouragement and builds pianists who are confident, expressive, and musically literate, I strongly recommend Dr. Philip Low!

My daughter started lessons with Philip when a friend at Lutheran Summer Music camp recommended him. She improved greatly while studying with him. After she went to college, I started taking lessons as a beginning adult. I continue to take lessons after several years and have enjoyed my time with Philip as I get better.

He is truly passionate about piano performance, and the fact that he has a PhD in it makes me feel extra fortunate to have found him to teach my daughter and son.
