About
Hi there! I can teach anyone to play the violin or viola well. Really! If you're willing to practice consistently and follow directions, read on.
I have been teaching since I was 14 years old and have learned that a supportive, encouraging environment rooted in kindness fosters success.
My doctorate is in performance and pedagogy (how to teach), which means I specialize in setting up a beginner and then taking them as far as they want to go. My professional experience ranges from the symphony orchestra to backing up pop singers in Las Vegas to playing in the ballet theatre pit orchestra. And I have experience fiddling (including Celtic, Irish, and bluegrass), too!
I've taught violinists and violists from ages 3 through 78 and have learned so much from each one I've had the privilege to know. All are welcome here!
I'd love to hear from you with your questions, goals, hopes, or anything you'd like to share. Thank you and best violin and viola wishes! 🎶🎻

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We begin with an interview lesson. This is a chance for us to make sure that working and learning styles are a good fit, as well as understand your goals, aims and wishes for study.
Typically, we'll introduce basic playing posture and technique for beginners. For students with experience, I will assess your playing and help you advance to the next stage in technique and repetoire, as well as identify which areas we need to bring up to speed (tone, bow control, intonation, etc).
If it's a good match, we devise an action plan to meet your goals and take it from there!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My doctorate is in Performance with a supporting area of String Pedagogy. I also am a registered Suzuki teacher and have substantial performing experience acquired throughout my career.
