My passion is teaching how to play the violin/viola well, with great technique, right from the start. It tickles me when I see that special light in a student's eyes when they "get it"!
I have been teaching my whole life, both in the public schools and private studio.
I have both B.M. and M.A. in violin performance, and am certified in all levels of the Suzuki training. Have played in professional symphonies in Des Moines and Quad Cities.
I love to teach!
I absolutely love it when students start to see for themselves the results of their own practice! Your success is my reward!
She pushed me hard because she believed in me, and I’m glad she pushed me because I went on to play violin in college and in orchestras around the Twin Cities after college. She knew my abilities well and picked out perfect pieces for me for solo and ensemble contests. She helped me develop confidence in my violin playing.
Julie is very comfortable to talk to and works with you personally at your own pace. She is very aware of what you need to work on and is focused and knowledgeable in her teaching. I liked how she was able to recognize my mistakes and tendencies and then tell/show me how to fix them. Song selections were fun to play, and lesson books were relevant and helpful in developing skills in different areas. Along with being a great teacher, she has also become a great friend of mine!
I had violin lessons by Julie from elementary through high school. She was a great teacher and after each lesson I felt like I learned something and she helped me grow and get better at playing the violin!
Julie was my first violin teacher! Her patient, nurturing approach and constant encouragement helped build the foundation for the player I am today, about 30 years later. I'm grateful to Julie for her support and instruction - you'll be glad you chose to take lessons with her.
