Barbara Heath Piano Lessons
About
I have been teaching piano to students of all ages and levels for more than 30 years. I have had great success with preschoolers, school age, and adult students from beginner to advanced levels.
As my piano student, you will receive individualized lessons to meet your needs. You will learn to understand the theory behind the music and to play classical, jazz, blues, and popular music. You will discover that playing the piano is fun and rewarding whether you are five or 99 years old!
I help my students to develop the skills of critical thinking through discovering patterns in the music and creative problem solving. My students learn to read music, count rhythms, identify key signatures, and develop technical skills. They have the opportunity to participate in classes and to play duets and trios and to perform for each other. Most importantly of all, my students are exposed to a wide variety of music, and they develop a genuine appreciation and love of playing the piano!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
All students learn to read music and to count rhythms. Younger students are very motivated with charts and stickers. They earn prizes by being “Practice Provers” and by sight reading music on their own. The goal with learning to read music is to be able to sit down at the piano and be independent rather than waiting for someone to show you how to play a song! Such an approach instills confidence as well as a true sense of accomplishment.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As a senior in high school, I played a piano concerto, Rhapsody in Blue, with my high school band. At that time, my piano teacher referred me to Michaela Track, a concert pianist from Vienna, and I later studied with concert pianists Willim Ibes, Ann Shaffert Miller, Duncan McNab, and John Moss. I have played private recitals as well as soloed with the Minnetonka Symphony Orchestra.
