About
I’m a professional pianist with a master’s degree in piano performance from Cleveland Institute of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts from The Ohio State University. I am interested in researching and performing contemporary music, for instance, I premiered various genres of music, including piano solo, chamber, and orchestra. I also wrote the document related to compositional style and method of practice for Ligeti’s piano etudes; Désordre and L’escalier du diable. I will encourage students to study and perform a variety of genres and repertoires of music from classical to contemporary. As an Adjunct Piano Faculty at St. Charles Community College, I coach students and accompany ensemble classes. I have taught at several colleges including Ohio State University (GTA), Hobart William Smith University (Staff Accompanist), Jefferson Academy of Music at OSU, Indiana University Summer Piano Academy (Assistant Piano Coach), Baek-Seok Arts University, and Sook-Myung Women’s University in South Korea. As a native South Korean pianist, I can teach lessons in either English or Korean. I have performed at Carnegie Weill Hall, Kennedy Center, Philadelphia, Ohio, Czech, Italy, and Seoul Arts Center in South Korea. I won numerous International Piano Competitions including International Young Artist Piano Competition, American Protégé, Asia International Music, Korean Piano Association Competition, and Korean World Arts Association Competition.
I have taught private students of all ages over 15 years and have prepared students for pre-college programs, college auditions (music major), competitions, and all types of performances. My students presented two seasonal recitals, and some of them won national piano competitions. I encourage students to participate in various performances, so they can get some results and confidence through this experience.
I am passionate about teaching and sincerely care for each of my students. I motivate students with a positive attitude, teach the best techniques, and develop an individual expressive and musical voice. I look forward to helping you enjoy music and achieve your goals.
