Concert Pianist & Steinway Teacher: Inspiring Excellence in Every Student

Unlock your child’s musical potential with Tenson Liang, a world-class concert pianist and dedicated educator.

Choosing the right instructor is the first step in a lifelong journey with music. As a classically trained concert pianist with international performance experience—ranging from the United States to Europe and Asia—I bring the highest level of artistry directly to my students.

Whether your child is five years old touching the keys for the first time or an advanced student preparing for conservatory auditions, I provide a prestigious musical education rooted in the classical training tradition.

Why Join My Studio?

I currently serve on the piano faculty at Rutgers University and manage a thriving private studio. My students don’t just learn notes; they become performers.

A Proven Path to Success: In over 10 years of teaching, I have guided more than 200 students. My students regularly excel in RCM exams, win state competitions, and go on to study at major conservatories.

Performance Opportunities: I host free seasonal recitals at the professional Steinway Showcase Room and provide monthly online studio classes to build confidence and eliminate stage fright.

Beyond the Bench: Students receive access to discounted tickets for major NJ classical events and free tickets to my own concerto performances with professional orchestras.

Customized Goal Setting: We create a personalized roadmap for every student, blending disciplined technique with the joy of making music.

    Frequently asked questions

My Process: A Foundation for Artistry and Success I believe the relationship between a teacher and student is a partnership. My process is designed to ensure that every student feels both challenged and inspired from their very first day. The Discovery Session (Free Trial): Every new journey begins with a free 30-minute trial lesson. This allows me to assess the student's current technical level, hand coordination, and musical instincts. For parents, it’s a chance to see my teaching style in action and ensure it’s the right fit for your child’s personality. Goal Mapping: Once we begin, I sit down with the student (and parents) to set clear milestones. Whether we are preparing for RCM/ABRSM exams, state competitions, or building a repertoire of favorite classical works, we create a "Roadmap to Excellence" that keeps daily practice focused and rewarding. Technical & Artistic Development: I emphasize a strong classical foundation. We focus on proper finger technique and posture from the start to prevent injury and allow for a beautiful tone. As we progress, we dive deep into musical interpretation—learning how to tell a story through the keys. Performance Integration: Confidence is built on stage, not just in the studio. New students are immediately invited to our monthly online studio classes to practice performing in a low-pressure environment, preparing them for our bi-annual formal recitals at the Steinway Showcase Room. Open Communication: I provide consistent feedback and clear practice assignments after every lesson. I am always available to parents to discuss progress or adjust our goals as the student grows.
Rutgers University – Artist Diploma: This is the highest level of performance recognition, reserved for musicians of the most advanced caliber. I now share this expertise as a faculty member at Rutgers, teaching piano to the next generation of musicians. The Juilliard School – Performance Degree in Piano: Training at Juilliard—widely considered the world’s leading music school—refined my artistry and provided me with a deep understanding of the highest standards of piano performance. University of Missouri (Mizzou) – Master of Music in Piano Performance: During my Master’s, I focused on advanced pedagogy and complex repertoire, learning how to break down difficult musical concepts into teachable steps. Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University – Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance: My foundation began at the oldest conservatory in the United States, where I developed the disciplined classical technique that I pass on to every one of my students today.
