I’m Tenson Liang, a classical-trained concert pianist who has collaborated with major orchestras and performed in the United States, England, Austria, France, Italy, New Zealand, China, Japan, and Taiwan.

Alongside my performance career, I’m a Steinway teacher. I currently teach piano at Rutgers University, where I work with students minoring in piano performance, and run my private studio, which currently has 15 students ranging in age from 5 to 70. Over the past 10 years, I’ve taught more than 200 students, from beginners to advanced pianists, some of whom are now studying at major conservatories.

I believe in a strong classical foundation for all students, regardless of their future musical goals. This approach builds essential finger technique and musical instincts. My teaching philosophy blends discipline with enjoyment, ensuring lessons are both motivating and rewarding.

These classes allow students to practice performing from memory in front of an audience, helping to build confidence and reduce stage fright. We also explore topics like music theory and the lives of legendary pianists and composers.

My studio hosts two live concerts each year, in mid-December and late May at Steinway showcase room. These events give students the chance to showcase their progress and perform on a Steinway grand piano in a professional setting.

*Clear Short- and Long-Term Goals*

I work with each student to create personalized plans that include both short- and long-term goals, helping to motivate consistent practice and foster a sense of achievement. These goals may include (but are not limited to) preparing for RCM exams, participating in state and online competitions, and performing at public venues such as churches, nursing homes, and other community spaces.

* Access to Classical Music Concerts*

Attending concerts is vital for developing a refined musical taste. I provide information about discounted or free tickets to major classical events in New Jersey and often organize group tickets for my students.

* Free Tickets to My Concerts*

As a student, you’re welcome to attend any of my performances, which occur 5–10 times annually in New Jersey.

Lesson Options and Rates

* At-Home Lessons: $100/hour

* Studio Lessons: $80/hour (my studio is conveniently located near Rutgers in New Brunswick)

* Shorter lessons are also available:

* 30 minutes: $60 (in-home) / $50 (studio)

* 45 minutes: $80 (in-home) / $65 (studio)
