About

Let me introduce myself- I am a member of the first violin section of the Kansas City Symphony which I joined in 2001. I perform extensively as a soloist and chamber musician throughout the Kansas City area as well and maybe you’ve heard me play with other groups around town like the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, Summerfest Concerts, and the Starlight Theater Orchestra just to name a few. I am honored that the Kansas City Star has described my performances as displaying “splendid virtuosity…with a rich and impressive tone” and KC Metropolis once said my playing was “stellar, with lyricism and technique to spare”.

I hold degrees from Northwestern University and Manhattan School of Music where I was privileged to study with Glenn Dicterow. I have also studied and performed at numerous music festivals , including the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Tanglewood, Music Academy of the West, ENCORE School for Strings and the Park City International Music Festival, among others. I have won many honors and awards including the New World Symphony Concerto Competition, the Manhattan School of Music Concerto Competition, the Union League Civic and Arts Foundation Competition, and the Society of American Musicians.

I love performing but I am also passionate about teaching the violin and sharing the joy and life changing rewards of making music!

Why should you start violin lessons? Numerous studies have shown the benefits violin lessons can have on a child’s academic performance but anyone at any age can reap these rewards! Learning to play and master the violin can improve memory, focus, concentration, problem solving, patience and self discipline. A violin student gains fine motor skills, enhanced dexterity, as well as greater whole body awareness and coordination. Most importantly, the violin will give you a soul sustaining creative outlet and a vehicle for self expression, enhancing mental and emotional health. As you learn and grow as a musician, your self esteem and self confidence will soar as you overcome new challenges. Additionally, learning the violin will open up a whole new world of playing with others in orchestras and chamber music groups. You can make meet and make friends with others who share your love of music.

As a teacher I know that every student is unique with different experiences, motivations and ways that they learn best. I will tailor the lesson plan and curriculum to help you achieve your own individual musical goals whether you dream of becoming a professional musician or are just starting on your violin journey. Some of my students have won competitions , been accepted into top conservatories and festivals, and have appeared as concerto soloist with the Kansas City Symphony. But I have also taught retirees who have always wanted to play but never had the time, adults who studied violin in elementary or high school and want to pick back up, and children or adults just starting out. Whatever your age or experience level you can expect I will devote my full energy, commitment and passion to your musical journey. My aim is to create lessons that are challenging, rewarding, engaging and enjoyable - learning should be fun!

Start on your path to violin mastery today and bring the power and magic of music into your life!
