Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
In the first lesson, we will assess the student's goals and ability in order to develop am education plan to achieve success.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold degrees in music from Miami University, and have several years of professional experience in teaching and performing. While the main goal for each student is to learn and grow in musical ability and understanding, several students have gone on to successful careers in music.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
We charge a monthly fee which includes 6 free lessons per calendar year (January -December).
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a teacher who will listen to you and be honest about what they can teach you. A good instructor will know how to teach proper technique, theory, and will approach the chosen repertoire with attention to musical nuances.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What do I really want to achieve?
Do I have a passion for learning music?
Am I willing to work for success?
Am I willing to set, or help my child set, a realistic practice schedule?
