About
At Listening House Studios, I believe in high standards and goals, but also make piano lessons fun. I specialize in students who are "challenging" for other teachers, or creative, or outside-the-box thinkers. Students start playing exciting songs at the very first lesson, and all sessions are fast-paced and informative. Before starting, I also offer a complimentary consultation, where I explain my unique studio and approach to some of the most interesting piano lessons ever.
I'm Rhonda Barfield, and I have a degree in Music Education plus four years of graduate piano lessons. Though classically trained, I've successfully taught hundreds of students for almost three decades, first at Truman State University's Preparatory Program, then at Beverly Milder's Yamaha Music School, and now in my home studio in historic St. Charles.
What do I love about teaching piano? Everything!-- but especially watching a light bulb go on when a student "gets" a concept. Seeing autistic children gain a skill that gives them an outlet. Observing students play piano flawlessly at a recital, when only months earlier they were terrified of performing. Thrilling to students learning to write their own beautiful compositions. Teaching them all to love and appreciate music.
