Although I played piano as a young girl, I had never even touched a violin before starting lessons with Kathryn. I was a total beginner. I have always loved the sound of fiddle music and Kathryn taught me how to play it. She also helped me purchase the perfect size violin (7/8) and selected music that I really enjoyed learning how to play. I only took lessons for a couple of years because I transferred to a new job and moved to the north western part of Montana. But the foundation she taught me has allowed me to continue to play on my own and also to expand my repertoire of songs. I now play with a small group of fiddle/violin players and I often get compliments on my bowing and also on how easily I can change fiddle styles. My fiddle playing is a very important part of my life now and I thank Kathryn for getting me started and sharing her love of music with me.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We work on the mechanics first how to hold the violin and bow and start learning the fingerboard, where the notes are and start to read music, if they have never read music before. Many times, I play along with the student to give them confidence.
