Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We offer a free private lesson so that we can have a chance to work one on one with a new student. This helps us to see which program would be best for them and helps the student to feel more comfortable before trying a group class. This also allows time to speak with the student and/or parents about the program and answer any questions they might have. We then have students come back to try a free group class so they can see what class is like with the other students.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Over 20 years of teaching and training in martial arts. Training and seminars on teaching and instructing classes. Certifications in personal training, BJJ/MMA, conditioning, nutrition, fucntional movement, physical therapy and more.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
The cost of our program depends on which class you enroll in. Avg cost ranges from $110-$130 per month. We do not have contracts with our program. We only ask for 30 days notice to freeze or cancel a membership.
How did you get started teaching?
I was a student first and knew early on that I wanted to teach. After years of training and earning my black belt, my instructor gave me an opportunity to instruct. I was teaching for about 10 years before opening my own school.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a wide range of students from as young as 3 years old up through adults of all ages. Men and women. I have worked with athletes, the average joes, and special needs children.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently a long time friend and student of mine decided to compete in a tournament. If was his first tournament and he did very well, winning all of his matches and taking a gold in his division.
A group of us also just ran the Broad Street run. We have done this race in the past but it is always a great time getting out together as a team.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for a school/ instructor that shares the same values and pricipals that you are looking for. A program should help a student reach their goals and their parent's goals (if a child), and well as be a program you enjoy. Making sure that personalities are a good fit, and that the school is going to help you get to where you want to go.
