I am a full time musician who plays in bands and teaches piano. I write music and am the leader of my own New Orleans style rock and funk band. I have studied classical piano since age 5, have been trained in classical theory since I was 15, and studied classical and jazz piano and theory in Montclair and San Francisco State Universities. I teach standard classical technique, but I mix this with classical jazz chord identification, music theory, and ear training. I accompany students as they play because I this improves students' timing.
If you or your child is frustrated with learning music off the page, can't understand the theory behind what he or she is playing, or just wants to be more at home improvising, I can help. My instruction is based on a firm foundation in technique but I teach the theory behind virtually all kinds of Western music.
I teach the standard classical repertoire as well as blues, gospel, and jazz. It the standard forms of playing are leaving you bored try giving my unique hybrid method a chance.
