About
I pride myself in helping students develop into proficient pianists who can demonstrate mastery in the four pillars of musicianship: Sightreading, Music theory, Technique, and Repertoire. I like my students to love what they do so I always work with students to choose pieces that they love whether it is a jazz piece of George Gershwin, a Bach Invention, or the Peanuts theme music. I have a piano studio that caters to students of all ages, different cultures, and different backgrounds with the common love of music and the determination to learn to read and play. Though I have a traditional classical training and am able to teach intermediate students complex classical repertoire, I worked for ten years as a touring musician in a rock and roll band and have a number of recordings with my original songs, keyboards, guitars, and vocals.
I love to see students have that 'aha' moment when they see the written music and hear what the composer is trying to communicate while at the same time making the music their own. I have the good fortune to work with the same students over a period of years so I get to watch them grow as people and as musicians.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I love teaching piano because I love to play the piano and love more than anything to see you develop your talents as a pianist and as a musician! I use a combination of traditional classical methods, Suzuki, and can include jazz and pop/rock including chord theory, arranging, and composing. My students typically become good sight readers and can play progressively more challenging pieces.I like to tailor my teaching to the abilities and interests of my students. Some of my students become accomplished at playing difficult classical pieces, while others like to learn a variety of genres.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I worked for ten years as a touring musician signed to IRS records and have a number of recordings available which include my songwriting, keyboard playing, guitar playing, and vocals. I studied classical piano from the age of three through college and am able to teach technique to intermediate level students. I hold an M.S.Ed. and have 20 years of experience developing my teaching method. I hold two recitals a year and workshops. I will be sending students to competitions: Crescendo and Music Teachers Association.
