Learn to play drums and percussion in a welcoming atmosphere with an experienced instructor! Michael Winnicki has been teaching private lessons for 5+ years in the NJ/NYC area with a goal to make each student play the music they love. Students are exposed to a variety of musical styles while developing a strong technical background.
I enjoy seeing students progress and develop a love for music. It's always a great to watch my students play along to music and seeing the feeling of satisfaction completing a song can bring.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First time students are shown some basic sticking pattern to get their hands moving, an introduction to music notation, and basic drum beats. In only a few lessons students will be able to play along to music!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I finished Rutgers with a double performance major in Jazz Drumset and Classical Percussion and have toured internationally in Japan, Poland and Italy. I currently perform in the NYC/NJ area playing with a variety of bands. I have taught at a variety of studios and at Montclair University's Stokes forest music camp.

$40 for 1/2 an hour
$50 for 45 min

How did you get started teaching?
I come from a family of music teachers, and once I became experienced enough I was eager to start sharing my knowledge. In high school I started out teaching friends' younger siblings after school.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from age 4-65, and I customize lessons for each students' abilities.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I recently got one of my very young students to play along to Led Zeppelin's When the Levee Breaks, playing exactly what John Bonham was playing, and reading sheet music of the song.
