Welcome to the Nicky Phillips Vocal Studio! I am a graduate of New York Vocal Coaching's Voice Training and Teacher Certification course and I have been privileged to have been mentored by Tony and Grammy award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, In The Heights) and to have worked with musical theatre legend Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell). I have been a professional singer, composer and teacher for 18 years collectively. My work as a multi faceted artist has given me an advantage when teaching voice students. It has allowed me to dig deeper into the story telling of a song and how to convey that through the voice whether a musical theatre, jazz, pop, rock or R&B song. I approach the voice through an advanced technical lens and consider myself a voice technician as well as a vocal coach!
Whether you are looking to strengthen your voice, work on your "mix", expand your range, land that audition or become comfortable with singing in public, I can help you achieve your goals all while learning proper technique in a fun, healthy and nurturing environment!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student I sit down with you and discuss what your goals are. What do you most want to achieve in your lesson? Is it extending your range? Is it working on strengthening your mix between your chest and head voice? Is it a song for an audition that requires song and character analysis? Or maybe singing lessons aren't about tackling a technical issue with your voice, maybe it's about experiencing the joy of singing and connecting to music. Whatever your goals are, I will then tailor specific vocal exercises for the goals that you have in mind.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a graduate of New York Vocal Coaching's Voice Training and Teacher Certification course under the tutelage of Justin Stoney. I have been privileged to have been mentored by Tony and Grammy award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda and to have worked with musical theatre legend Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell). I have studied voice at the Royal Conservatory of Toronto, trained in music through the Berklee School of Music, am a member of the BMI musical theatre workshop where I was awarded the Jean Banks Award for Outstanding Achievement in Musical Theatre, am a recipient of an ASCAP Plus Award and am a graduate of Ryerson University's Theatre Acting program. I am currently working with acclaimed voice teacher Justin Stoney.

I have worked with Broadway Professionals, Singer Songwriters, Pop and Rock singers, Jazz Singers, Shower Singers and total beginners!
