Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Lessons.com.
How much are singing lessons?
Singing lessons cost$50 to $90 per hour on average. Prices vary depending on the teacher's location, experience, reputation, and whether you're taking a private or group lesson. Group lessons typically cost less per person than private lessons, but you may not get as much personal attention and feedback in a group setting.
Some singing teachers charge a flat rate for a specified increment of time, typically in 30-minute, 45-minute, or 60-minute increments.
Many coaches offer package deals to purchase 2 to 10+ lessons at a time and reduce the cost per lesson.
Do singing lessons work?
Singing lessons won't change your sound completely, but they can help improve your sound by strengthening your vocal cords and improving your range and tone.
What do singing lessons teach you?
Singing lessons involve more than just your voice. A vocal coach will teach you how to hold and improve your posture, which gives your diaphragm optimal room to expand. You also learn proper breathing techniques and how to use your breath to improve your tone. Singing lessons also help you improve your diction—the way you articulate your words when singing—as well as your ability to match specific pitches.
Can adults take singing lessons?
Yes, adults can absolutely take singing lessons. While starting singing lessons at a young age gives you more time to develop your voice, it's never too late to begin learning and improve your singing voice.

Very Professional, Punctual, Strong Work Ethic, Patient and Easy Going.
Ron was initially hired for voice lessons (voice control/speech) for our son. We knew that we made the right choice after the first visit as Ron suggested that he shift gears from doing voice lessons with our son to working as his speech coach to help our son with his speech impediments and confidence building. Well with five sessions in, we couldn’t be happier. We are seeing major progress with our teenage son and he is very comfortable and happy with what Ron has brought to the table. Ron always goes over and beyond to help. He is constantly presenting better ways to help him while keeping things interesting. We HIGHLY recommend Ron for all the services that he offers!

He's a great teacher: encouraging, but also knows when and how to critique and not discourage a beginner. Makes sure it is challenging, but not overwhelming. Encyclopedic knowledge of jazz and music theory. Definitely recommend!

Montclair Voice Studio Distance distinguishes itself from other studios in providing a most optimal and holistic learning environment. Each student is fully assessed and given the tools to identify and correct “weaknesses”, build upon strengths and cultivate ones’ scholarship all while encouraging one to connect with the best opportunities for one’s own artistic/recreational/professional development. I truly cannot say enough about what a wonderful and RARE gem and model is found here. They see you at your best potential here and you leave the studio reaching that potential! I participated in Peter Mark's masterclasses, and he is a real professional who cares about his students. No matter what level of voice you have, or where you are currently in your training, he will help to get the best out of you. He has great intuition about how to handle singers and really gives 100% of his energy in coaching. I greatly appreciate him working with me and consider it a great honor to have been allowed to participate in these classes.

Taking vocal lessons with Sarah has been the best decision for my voice. She’s helped me build confidence and feel secure in every performance, audition, and rehearsal. What I love about Sarah is how she explains things in multiple ways to help any student understand. I’m a visual learner, and she always gives me clear mental images that make concepts easy to grasp. Beyond her amazing teaching, Sarah is the kindest person. She makes every lesson feel comfortable, no matter what kind of day I’ve had. I recommend her to all my friends and will continue to do so. Thank you to Sarah!

I highly recommend voice teacher Christine Moore to anyone who desires to have more power and control of their voice and singing. She has fine-tuned knowledge of vocal mechanics and most importantly, she knows how to share that information with her students in a focused and caring way. She is deeply interested in her students' process and progress, and is also very skilled at tailoring lessons to her students' particular musical goals. As someone who performs regularly in a jazz/experimental/rock setting, I have gained tremendously from working with Christine. Lessons consist of both classical vocal training and addressing the specific skills needed for non-classical singing. The work has been not just beneficial but crucial towards developing stamina and a healthy voice that I can count on in performance.
