Singing Lessons With A Professional Jazz Vocalist
About
My approach to teaching is highly personalized, depending on your level and what you need most at the moment! My techniques are rooted in these key things: 1. Healthy Vocal Technique and Sound Production - with it being the foundation of singing, we will work on breath support and an aligned singing posture. (Where needed, we will not only work on your singing voice but also help you speak in a healthier way, since the two impact each other!) 2. Pitch and Ear Training - if needed, we will address pitch accuracy to make sure you sound your best! In addition, we'll do some fun ear training exercises after which you'll be able to recognize the sounds of various chords and intervals. This will help you figure out what the chords are to your favorite songs on your own in the future :) 3. Beginning Piano / Music Theory - if you're ever looking to perform live with a band or accompany yourself, I will teach you beginning piano and music theory so that you can comfortably inform the band of your key and be a musician in the most authentic sense of the word! 4. Performing/ Stage Presence - if you're looking to perform live, together we will develop your stage presence, stage speaking skills (such as introducing your songs and connecting with the audience), and any performance anxiety that can come up along the way. The bottom line is, I'll meet you where you are and help you get where you want to be! I believe that with a working pair of vocal cords and ears, and a pair of ears, everyone can learn how to sing! My lessons are a safe space where you can be your authentic self and where we will work on discovering and shaping YOUR unique voice.
Born in Minsk, Belarus, Angelina discovered her passion for singing at age 8 through her voice teacher, Veronika Yanovskaya, who introduced her to Ella Fitzgerald and Ray Charles. Fascinated by Ella’s scatting and Ray’s soulfulness, Angelina wanted to sing this music ever since. During her primary education, she participated in international vocal competitions and festivals across Europe and the CIS, where she connected with fellow musicians and participated in workshops. At 17, she released her first single, "Off the Road," drawing inspiration from soul artists such as Stevie Wonder and Jill Scott. That same year, Angelina received a scholarship to Adelphi University’s Honors College in New York, graduating summa cum laude in May 2022. In 2021 and 2022, Angelina participated in the Boysie Lowery Living Jazz Residency and performed at the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival, in addition to being a mentee in the Women in Jazz Mentors Program. She has also been invited to perform at Birdland Jazz Club, Ornithology Jazz Club, Room623, as well as to collaborate with the New Brunswick Jazz Project and the Hartford Jazz Society. Angelina currently performs throughout New York City and the tri-state area and is an active member of the New York Jazz scene, in addition to performing with Sofar Sounds as a songwriter and teaching. In 2024 and 2025, Angelina has been a finalist in the prestigious Ella Fitzgerald Jazz Vocal Competition.
