Frequently asked questions

My teaching is based on the Swedish-Italian School and I use specific exercises for specific vocal needs.  I know these exercises work because I've used them myself!

In an hour lesson I usually spend about half the time working my students through the exercises (and explaining what they do) and about half the time working on repertory.

If the student has an upcoming performance or audition - then we spend more time on the repertory.

I have a Bachelor of Music in Voice from Stetson University, DeLand, Florida.

I have a Masters of Music in Voice from Manhattan School of Music, NYC, NY

I have 30 years experience at New York City Opera - real time, stage experience.

I have over 8 years of study in acting, working with one of the top acting/directing teachers in New York.

For a 1 hour lesson I charge $65.  I often offer a "get to know you" price of $55 for the first three lessons.

I have always taught in some way or another.  My most recent focus on teaching came about because my voice teacher, David Jones, is an amazing "teacher of teachers" and holds teaching seminars all over the world.  He encouraged me to teach more and I'm certainly glad I took his advice.

I work with students from beginner to advanced in most genres: classical, opera, Broadway, and pop.  I feel strongly that the technique of singing is the same, no matter what genre you sing in.  The styles are different, for sure. But technique is technique.

I have participated in (and continue to do so) a concert/drama called "Defiant Requiem", conceived and conducted by a good friend and outstanding conductor/teacher, Murry Sidlin.  This is the story of prisoners at the concentration camp called Terezin, learning and performing the Verdi Requiem as a way to defy the Nazis.  I have sung all over Europe and in NYC and Washington DC in this concert/drama and it has been a thrilling and truly moving experience.  If you would like more information on this amazing organization please check out the following websites: www.defiantrequiem.org  or murrysidlin.com
