I've had the pleasure of singing since I was 6 years old, and teaching voice lessons since 1987. I struggled vocally as a young singer, and eventually "lost" the ability to sing my top notes...because I was using only my THROAT to sing, and not using my BODY!!! It took me a year to figure out how to access my upper notes correctly. Once I learned how to use my BODY to sing, no more struggling with the top of my range!! Now, I can use my years of experience as a professional singer and teacher to teach YOU how to sing properly. I help each student discover their own INDIVIDUAL voice, encouraging each student to use THEIR UNIQUE GIFT in a healthy way. I am well-versed in the opera, musical theater and sacred vocal repertoires. I have even helped a few jazz and country singers along the way!! No matter what style you prefer to sing, a SOLID TECHNIQUE is absolutely KEY to a long and productive career!! I look forward to working with YOU. PLEASE NOTE: I TEACH IN MANHATTAN at various rehearsal studios throughout NEW YORK CITY...I do NOT travel outside of Manhattan. I charge $60 for a one hour voice lesson, which includes the cost of renting the studio. Thank you!!
Incredibly, my voice students range in age from 9 to 87!! Each student requires an individual approach; we all have different life experiences. I am not a "one size fits all" teacher. My approach is structured to each student's UNIQUE needs. I get a thrill seeing and hearing my students improve. Once you master a solid technique, you will have absolutely NO FEAR singing in public!! Then, the JOY of making music takes over. It's truly amazing to see the reactions of friends and family when they hear my singers improve, after I have taught them! :-)
I came to Keith for help with my tendency to tighten up so much I could produce a note. He focuses on proper physical management of one's vocal instrument (body) to produce beautiful sound without strain. I now enjoy singing again and have improved my range as well as surprised myself with the quality of sound I can now produce. Keith is very supporting, full of praise, and a pleasure to work with.
Keith is an awesome voice teacher. My Mom encouraged me to try a few lessons and it went so well that I begged her to let me take her lesson time! I recently sang for my aunt who is a vocalist, and she was amazed at the sound of my voice. Thank you Keith! Your method really works!
Keith is the most amazing voice teacher and theatre business educator I have ever had . While teaching you the true basis of singing he also allows you to be yourself. Combining the techniques you learn with the genres you enjoy , his studio is fun and informative.
Keith Spencer is a gifted vocal instructor. He has successfully taught professional as well as aspiring vocalists. He has an in-depth knowledge of the physiological mechanics of singing and a keen eye for discovering and implementing tactics to help his students gain resonance in their voice. He is positive and encouraging and will bring out the best in your voice!
I am very proud to say that I am a Metropolitan Opera Regional finalist!

I was approached by audience members after a performance of the opera "Don Pasquale"; these kind people stated they really loved my singing. They asked me if I taught voice lessons...the rest is history.
