Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First of all, I would need to know how old is the student and what amount of experience her/she has in learning violin.
If student is a beginner, our first lesson will be introduction to the instrument (learning about the parts of violin and bow, and what role are they playing in sound production), basic posture (how to stand and hold instrument properly). For next lesson I will assign violin method book, and will go over it with a student. Student will learn how to produce good sound, play melodies, and learn written musical language (traditional musical notation).
If student had a good experience with a past violin teacher and liked his/he lesson procedures, I would be happy to continue experience in the same direction, as long as the method of previous teacher is convincing to me.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I received degree in violin pedagogy from college in the Ukraine, bachelor, and masters in violin performance from UNLV. As part of my assistantship at UNLV, I was giving lessons to music majors and music minors university students.
