About

Hello, my name is Jose Flores and here's a little bio of myself: I'm a 28-year-old violinist born in Lima, Peru. I'm fluent in both English and Spanish. I began studying violin at the age of 7 at my elementary school and at the age of 8 I got in the National Conservatory of Music in Peru, where I developed my skills as a violinist even more. I later became the concertmaster of the Child and Youth Symphony Orchestra of Peru, performing in various parts of the country. I continued to conduct rigorous studies with the renowned violin teacher Lazlo Benedeck. In 2009 I moved to Los Angeles to further my studies in music at the "LA County High School for the Arts". Soon after, I received a full scholarship to attend "The Colburn School of Performing Arts" in Los Angeles, under the teaching of Henry Gronnier. In 2011 I was accepted and attended the "San Francisco Conservatory of Music" studying Violin Performance and pursuing a Bachelors in Music, under the direction of Bettina Mussumeli. In 2013 I relocated to Utah to continue my studies and finish my Bachelors. I later got accepted to the University of Utah and completed my masters degree in String Pedagogy and Performance under the direction of Hasse Borup and Robert Baldwin. I was also awarded a Teaching Assistantship at the University of Utah while completing my masters degree. I’ve performed with various groups, chamber ensembles, and as a soloist all over the United States and also abroad like Spain, Mexico, Italy and Germany. I have over 20 years of experience playing the violin, and over 11 years of experience providing violin and music theory lessons to all ages. I offer lessons for beginners through advanced at my studio in Salt Lake City as well as Ogden or online through Zoom or Skype. I am very flexible and can accommodate most schedules. I have a diverse complete selection of books and pieces for all levels. Hope I get to work with you soon!

What I love the most about teaching is the satisfaction I get when I see my student succeed. I have been teaching for many years and it ihas been very rewarding to see all the little and big accomplishments from every student I have.

The art of the violin is a very difficult skill to master and may be a good thing to have in terms of discipline, but what makes it beautiful is the mental and physical benefits you get from it and for me teaching this, is my biggest passion.

    Frequently asked questions

I like to first get to know the student a little bit and if it's a younger student, I like to have a parent present and talk to both of them. Kinda go through a few things regarding their playing, if they had any previous experience, learn if they have any goals they would like to accomplish, and just a quick chat to get to know them and for them to get to know me.

Depending on their level, I like to introduce a few of my teaching methods to them that is either with a scale, an etude or a piece. I do like to make sure to ask if there is a piece in specific that they would like to play, and depending on their level, I will assess if it would be the right fit or not. If it's not, I usually will let them know that our goal will be to get to that level. For me it's very important that the student feels that he is learning and everything I say makes sense, so I make sure communication is clear and well understood but overall fun. Violin shouldn't have to be tidious work, but rather be fullfilling and enjoyable.

I have a Masters Degree in string pedagogy and performance. Been teaching violin as well as music theory professionally for over 11 years.

    I have three different rates:

    30 Min. Lesson = $30

    45 Min. Lesson = $50

    60 Min. Lesson = $60

Lessons are charged after the end of every lesson. Forms of payment accepted include cash, Venmo, Apple Pay, Facebook Pay and Cash App.

My love for teaching started when I was young. When I was 13 years of age as a member of the Youth Symphony Orchestra of Peru. As the concertmaster I had the opportunity and the responsibility to hold sectionals and have individual coaching to younger kids that were in the Child Symphony Orchestra of Peru. From ages 12 and below.

I worked with students of all age, from 5 to 60 years of age. Students with all kinds of different backgrounds and culture! I've taught in Peru, USA, Germany, Italy and Spain. What I love the most about music is that it is a universal language and everyone at any different time in their life can be a part of it.
