Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Depending on the age of the student I like to make sure in the first couple lessons they are comfortable with me & know we are going to have a fun time together learning. I start with the basics & move at the students pace.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was classically trained to play and to teach by a concert pianist for 9 years. In college I also took music theory courses to help further not only my own understanding but also how best to teach others.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I prefer to teach 45 min lessons and that price will be $40. If I travel to you a small traveling fee will apply. If for some reason a little one is not able to sit & focus for 45 min, to begin we will start at about 30 min and gradually as time progresses move them up to a 45 min lesson.
How did you get started teaching?
My piano teacher encouraged me to become a piano teacher and she helped train me to know how to teach. When I was 17 I took on my first student.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with children and adults of all ages and personalities. I also have experience with children that have ADD/ADHD, down syndrome & autism.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure to find a teacher you can connect with. It helps the learning process so much when you enjoy who you are learning from. I've had students that don't particularly enjoy practicing but they love coming to lessons because they enjoy our time together.
