About

As a piano teacher, I provide my students with a foundation of fundamental skills to build from. It is important to me to give my students and their parents freedom in deciding the content and direction of their musical education, while still including essential elements such as technique, music theory, aural skills, sight-reading, memorization, and performance practice. These are necessary not only for each student to reach his or her highest potential and become a well-rounded musician, but for each student to fully enjoy what making music has to offer at its most rewarding level. In order to meet each child's individual needs, I value a personal relationship with my students and their parents. Above all, I want each student to discover a passion and enthusiasm for music and the piano as great as my own.

Lisa Cox began her teaching experience in high school with a small studio of local kids. After high school, she graduated from Utah State University cum laude with a Bachelor's of Music in Piano Pedagogy, under the private instruction of Dr. Kevin Olson. During her undergraduate, she studied both classical performance and the art of teaching piano. While attending Utah State University, Lisa taught at the Youth Conservatory, teaching both privately and group musicianship classes, and assisted in keyboard skills classes for music major students. She also taught at The Art of Piano studio in Springfield, IL during summers. Both technical instruction and the helpful guidance of experienced teachers were crucial in her personal study; accordingly, she strives to provide her own students with the same assistance. During her 15 years of piano teaching, she has taught all ages from 5 to adult. Now, she teaches private piano lessons in her home in Albany, NY. What she loves most about teaching piano is seeing children's confidence in themselves soar as they learn and enjoy a priceless skill.

  • 45 minute lessons: $478/semester, or $120/month

45 minute lessons are recommended for intermediate level students and teenagers.

A 10% family discount will be given to each additional child enrolled.

Tuition will be prorated for students who enroll mid-semester.

All types- 5 year old to adult, beginner to intermediate.

Make sure you are commited to practice. The amount of time practicing is important, but not nearly as important as regular and consistent practicing. Consistency is key when it comes to practicing.

Learning to play an instrument is an AMAZING opportunity for children to gain confidence and a way to express themsevles. Without consistent practice, learning an instrument can damage a child's confidence and expression.
