About
I have been teaching piano for over 30 years. I was brought up with music being a very important part of my life and love to share and help bring music into other people's lives. I teach students from 5 years old to ?. I teach how to read music by using various methods pending on each individual. Every person is unique. I call it customized teaching. I introduce various styles of music and will also help you learn how to play the music you would like to play. I teach in my studio in the Marilla area. I also go to houses, pending on availability, area and for a different fee. I am also available to teach daytime for home school families. I do teach all year round with 2 opportunities to perform in a recital or piano festival. Performances are not mandatory, but available for students to show off what they have learned and receive awards.
I love to see my students progress and enjoy the art of playing the piano.
I always make sure everyone learns the correct way and try to get them to play the type of music they desire to play and soon as I can.
My goal is to make you better than me. Another goal is for the student to be able to pick up a piece of music and be able to sight read it without help.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The first thing you learn is where the keys are on the piano. Then I will teach some note recognition with a few songs to practice. You then practice what you learned and come back the next week and we keep learning more.
How did you get started teaching?
I have taught piano since I was 18 years old. At first, it was part time which turned into full time.
My parents were both professional musicians and were great influences in my life. They were also excellent teachers. I wanted to follow in their footsteps.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students as young as 5 years old to many different ages of adults.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Make sure the teacher teaches you how to read music. You really don't want someone who labels everything with either numbers, letters or colors. The ultimate goal is to be able to play the type of music you would like to play at the level you would like to be at without the need of help.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
You just need the desire to learn. Music can be very relaxing and a great stress release.
Learning piano also helps with eye/hand coordination.
Do you have at least 4 to 5 days a week to practice?
Do you have at least 15 to 30 minutes to practice?
