About

Ryan Capozzo, an American tenor from New York, is “generating genuine drama” on the operatic stage (Opera News), and is in pursuit of a Master of Musical Arts degree from the School of Music at Yale University. He currently holds a position at the Yale School of Music as a private voice teacher. Mr. Capozzo has maintained a passion for music education and vocal technique throughout his performance career. He has worked as a private voice teacher at Purchase College State University of New York, The Rye Arts Center, as well as his own private studio.

Recently, Mr. Capozzo made his role debut as Arcadio in Daniel Catán's Florencia en el Amazonas with Yale Opera. Additional recent engagements include singing partial roles of Captain Vere from Billy Budd and Prunier from La Rondine in Yale Opera's Opera Scenes, singing the role of Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi as a guest artist with Purchase Opera, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte with the Berlin Opera Academy, and the role of Reverend Samuel Parris in Albany Records’ recording of Ward's The Crucible.

During his time with Purchase Opera, Mr. Capozzo performed roles such as Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Nerone in L'incoronazione di Poppea, Reverend Samuel Parris in Ward's The Crucible, Don Basilio and Don Curzio in Le nozze di Figaro, and Lysander in Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Some of Mr. Capozzo's solo concert credits include Mozart's Requiem with the SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music and Rye Presbyterian Church, Beethoven's Choral Fantasy under the direction of Ransom Wilson, Handel's Messiah under the direction of David J. Recca, and Vivaldi's Magnificat with Stanwich Church and Rye Presbyterian Church.

He has been selected as a semi-finalist for Annapolis Opera's 2021 Vocal Competition, and he was awarded the Briarcliff Music Scholarship in 2016.

Mr. Capozzo holds a B.M. and a M.M. from the Purchase College Conservatory of Music.

The journey that we take as musicians is a unique one filled with different people, rich experiences, travel, and art. It has been a joy for me to be able to help other aspiring musicians to hone their craft.

Ryan is a fantastic teacher – both enthusiastic and demanding. First and foremost, he is an incredible singer. On top of that, Ryan genuinely shares excitement in the successes of his students, which is both an uncommon and necessary ingredient for great private teaching.
