Aikido Kokikai Of Queens

Aikido Kokikai Of Queens

5.0(4 reviews)

Our program provides Aikido instruction to adults in the Woodhaven, Queens Community and surrounding neighborhoods. Youths age 13 to 17 years old can also practice when accompanied by a parent or guardian. Our certified Black Belt Instructors have been practicing and teaching Aikido for over 20 years.

Aikido is a non-aggressive Japanese martial art. Its four principles are simple:

1. Keep One Point to develop calmness

2. Relax progressively

3. Find Correct Posture in everything

4. Develop your Positive Mind

Aikido training offers the opportunity to learn how to control ourselves, so that we are able to respond to any situation gently and with confidence both on and off the mat.

It is not a striking or kicking art. Aikido teaches how to get out of the way of an attack and keep yourself safe. Learn techniques that take your attacker's balance, use their negative energy to your positive advantage and disarm them without harming them.

Training includes stretching, breathing and centering practice, mind-body coordination exercises and martial arts tumbling and roll practice.

I am a certified black belt instructor practicing aikido for over 18 years. Previously, I was an instructor at Aikido Kokikai of Rochester dojo in Rochester, New York.

I enjoy the immediate impact of lessons learned from Aikido on students and the benefits they gain as a result of this defensive martial art that has principles that can be used in one's daily life.

Frequently asked questions

Aikido can feel a little overwhelming when first starting out.  We want to help you get comfortable with concepts and techniques and familiarize you with the Basic Principles.

Aikido is a highly-efficient form of self-defense that focuses on each individual becoming centered, relaxed, and confident with both the mind and body working together simultaneously.  By becoming proficient at self-defense, the individual becomes better equipped to enjoy their life and enrich the lives of others.  Aikido gives one the opportunity to learn how to control one's self and in turn deal with any situation gently, efficiently, and calmly. Aikido principles are transferrable to one's daily life.

Your first visit is free to observe or participate. If you would like to learn more we have an introductory package of your first 8 classes for the price of four, only $45. No long term commitment and an opportunity to see if Aikido is a martial art for you.

If you enjoy Aikido and would like to continue learning we have periodic discounted promotions for regular practice which includes a monthly mat fee of $75.

Shortly after my promotion to black belt I started to teach some classes at the dojo where I practiced. I enjoyed it and when I relocated I started my own program.

Students I have taught and trained with come from many different backgrounds from auto mechanics to ER physicians.  Retirees, college students, grad students, acupuncturists, nurses, musicians, artists and more.

Certified Black Belt instruction is a plus but not an absolute.  Certification indicates there is promotional process involved that is recognized and respected by other certified instructors of Aikido. It can serve as assurance for the student that they are receiving familiar and recognized instruction.

Don't hesitate to ask any questions.  However, address your needs prior to the start of class or after class.
