About
My service stands out as I offer vocal training as well as classes in electronic looping as well as music production and songwriting. I love to draw from my South African heritage in the way that I use the voice and my approach to songwriting.
I love teaching as I love to empower others and show them that everything they need , all the creativity already exists inside them :)

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
For vocal students : I like to first find out whether the student has any other formal vocal training before singing. I typically ask the student which genre they are singing and trained in and what they would like to do further. Their future goals ...
Then ask them whuch voice type they are , are they comfortable singing high or low and then commence with an appropriate vocal warm up
I then ask them to sing a piece they are very comfortable with vocally so I can see where the good things are as well as the pitfalls
For songwriting or audio production : I like to find out which software they are familiar with. Their future goals ... ask them to play me a song they wrote and take it from there.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I can teach across the board whether it's someonw who has a doctrate and wants a different perspective or a beginner in vocal training as well as audio production and songwriting
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
It's typically $75 an hour for both vocal coaching and the same price for audio production and songwriting.
How did you get started teaching?
I worked at the University of Cape Town , my alma mater after graduating and then in many jazz and music camps for a number of years in South Africa and internationally.
What types of students have you worked with?
Across the board, from Kindergarten to Collage graduates and higher learning , those doing their masters and need mentorship etc...
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A recent teaching event I am fond of is a course called Note- able , a 3 week course that I developed for the 92 Y CALL department ( centre for arts , learning and leadership ) It is a singer/ singwriter course with the emphasis on using garageband and acoustic instruments to create your own music. We just finished 2 weeks of the 3 week course today and looking forward to the students sharing their work with us next week :)
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would say I that I try to create a super safe space to learn and express and to be yourself. So don't be afraid to be yourself and briing your unique style and individuality
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Think about what you want to achieve overall with regards to what we work on in lessons. Do you want to increase your range , get over your break , breathing , learn to write outside of your natural comnfortable songwriting style.
