About
Functional voice training for beginners through professionals, ages 8 and up. Focus is on developing technique including body alignment, breath coordination, clear tone, register coordination and range expansion to apply to a wide range of songs and styles.
I teach at NYU Tisch and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus in addition to my private students. I hold an MM in vocal performance from NYU and the Distinguished Voice Professional certificate from NYSTA. Certified in Somatic VoiceworkTM The LoVetri Method since 2005, I am senior faculty at the LoVetri Institute for Somatic Voicework in Residence at Baldwin Wallace University.
My philosophy:
The goal of all technical work is a free and expressive voice which can respond to the artistic demands of a given piece of music – an instrument that can reflect a style, character and emotional state and be healthy and stylistically appropriate with unimpeded flow from soul and heart to voice.
I prefer to work with people who have at least some type of music experience, like having sung at least a little - chorus or musicals in school or sung with a band, or even just played another instrument.
I teach people, through the medium of music. So it is wonderful to see someone blossom as a musician and become more confident, self-assured and find an outlet for their expression.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Short intake at the first lesson, followed by getting to know their voice, capabilities and issues through warming up and exercises. Exercises start out gently at first, encouraging relaxation and waking up the voice. We proceed to work on technical issues as they show up through more demanding exercises. The last part of each lesson is spent on repertoire, either chosen by me or by the student with my approval.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
BA and MM in Music. Lots of post-graduate courses, seminars and conferences on vocal pedagogy to continue to learn and grow as a teacher. Certification in Somatic Voicework(tm) The LoVetri Method.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
1 hour lessons are currently $90.
45 minute lessons are $75
30 minute lessons are $65.
Lessons are meant to be once a week.
What types of students have you worked with?
All types, all ages, from 8-80! Many are actors, dancers, musical theatre performers. Some are school kids, and some are adults studying for fun and the pleasure singing brings them.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Get recommendations from friends and/or singers you admire.
Ask questions about the teacher's background. Do they perform? Are they active in professional organizations? What is their training for teaching?
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Prospective students should be able to discuss their prior training and experience, if any. They should have an idea of their goals and what styles of music they are most interested in exploring. Ask the teacher if s/he can help you with those goals.
