About
Holding a Bachelor's degree in piano performance from the Oberlin Conservatory, and Masters degree in music education from the Eastman School of Music, I am an experienced teacher in the Chattanooga, TN area.
Teaching piano touches all of my strengths, and therefore is an extremely rewarding and inspirational career. I have been drawn to the piano since age 3, then playing tunes by ear- began lessons at 5 and continue to sharpen my performing skills today. Recently, I took a "personal skills inventory" to see what areas of my personality were the strongest. "Empathy" was the winner with "Helping" coming in second. These attributes are hard-wired in me. I think that, coupled with my training and experience, are why in over 30 years of teaching i have, with very few exceptions, kept my students for many many years and not lost them to transferring.
I am meticulous about technique and all the rudiments of music- rhythm, dynamics, phrasing, etc but always with the individual's capability front and center. I move at each student's pace, and in this way, frustration is a stranger in the studio. Lessons are upbeat, fun, and encouraging. Loads of references on request.
