About

Lifesource Yoga & Bodyworks has been serving the Akron area since 2008. Our legacy of service over the past 11 years has beeen built around compassion, respect and a steadfast dedication to dynamic, nourishing and inspiring teaching. While our past is our legacy, the future is always in our sights and we are always looking for new ways to grow and serve. Some of the ways we have expanded our teaching in recent years includes teaching at schools, assisted living communities, corporate settings and community gatherings.

In our recently remodeled studio, we offer private and group classes daily, an Advanced Yoga Study program which includes quallifying & continuing Yoga Alliance approved training for yoga teachers, a Circle Series of workshops to enhance and expand knowledge & experience for the general student population, and more. Our classes and programs reflect a variety of yoga practice traditions in both cool and hot settings and we remain welcoming and dedicated to first-time students as well as people who have been practicing for decades.

Our studio is Summit County owned, independent (not a chain or franchise) and operates under fair-exchange/fair-profit principles. Our management practices focus on sustainable consumption habits and we enjoy conducting our professional affairs with responsible stewadship of all resources.

To tell the truth, our energy is primarily tied to service and character value; our social media, web, and overall digital presence might be considered a bit, well, lame. Flashy imagery, slick marketing, blinking lights and live streams are not are preferred method of communicating but you can find our schedule and more info at lifesourceyoga.com or our Facebook page @lifesourceakron. Or, better yet, give us a call 330-835-9945 or stop-by. We'd be delighted to meet you.

The study & practice of yoga is a joy and, generally speaking (of course, we have a bad day now and then) we love what we do! Yoga can enhance nearly every life in some ways or others; regardless of faith, ability, beliefs, background, culture, or circumstance.

Whether you're looking for a rigorous physical practice to look better in a bathing suit, balance out stress and high energy or are seeking to reduce stress and open the body through a gentle and more reflective style of yoga, we are here to nourish and support your goals and intentions with honesty, gladness and gratitude.

Frequently asked questions

A brief counseling session by phone or in person is the best way to get to know a student's ability level, goals and intentions. We offer no-cost counseling sessions by appointment. However, our staff is friendly and accomodating to everyone and, if time allows, teachers or managers can often give a quick list of suggested classes or programs at the time of a student's first class.

Our admin and management staff comes to their positions through a variety of educational and experience experiences ranging from those rising up from the school-of-hard knocks to those with advanced and professional degrees in various disciplines. Our teaching staff members are people who have completed a variety of yoga-specific training programs ranging from Yoga Alliance approved 200, 300 o5 500 hour certifications to teachers with decades of experience and 500+hour certifications.

Our pricing structure has been designed to serve people with various budgets & situations. We strive to price our services in a way that provides our staff with a living wage and our ownership with a fair, living wage profit. We offer new students many inexpensive ways to discover what we offer including a 2 Week/$20 unlimited class package and our existing customers can pickup 6, 12 or 24 class packs that offer discounted class attendance. Existing clients can also pick up monthly unlimited classes for only $79/month with automatic credit card payments or $89/month without auto-pay. An annual unlimited annual package costs $775 and should expense be a complete barrier, we are gald to consider a work-for -study opportunity to those willing and qualified to provide work assistance in exchange for classes & study opportunites. Examples of work asssitance needed include house-cleaning, desk attendant, social media or graphic design assistance, assistance in keeping blankets and straps laundered every week or assistance in media relations and communications. Assistance in keeping our little patio garden tended in the spring and summer would also be welcome so if you have a green-thumb and a tight budget, please let us know. Herbs, vegetables, flowers in pots are what we like to grow on our patio.

The owner of Lifesource began practicing yoga poses as a child under the guidance of her Grandmother and continued in practice as a student uner the teaching of a variety of teachers. As teacher training programs began to open up at local studios, she enrolled in the Lifesource Yoga 200 hour TT program in 2013 and has been learning and continuing practice ever since.

All Lifesource teachers have completed teacher training programs from a host of domestic and international yoga schools. Our staff includes some of the most experienced teachers in the area.

Students of all bakgrounds, ages and many ability levels have come through our classes and beginners are always welcome. Private sessions are available and are extremely helpful to many new or newer students or those with specific needs (trauma, surgical recovery, persons who may experience anxiety in larger groups, those who require complete discretion or privacy due for whatever reason, persons with limited range of motion, etc). Semi-private and private group classes are also available for those with specific needs. Off site teaching to nursing home or assisted living communities is available as is teaching to school staff or students, public service employees (fire/EMS, police, etc at their place of work). We are eager to serve these communites or any other specific need. Please call for a consult. 330-835-9945

So, so many but recent classes at a charity based assisted living community would be on our list of a recent event we are fond of. Teaching to local theater groups and public school teachers would also be on the list as would our studio sponsorship of the Elevate Akron yoga event that has been held over the past several years. We also offer occasional free teaching at Groghan Park here in Fairlawn.

Look for a legacy of long-term support and service. There are so many options nowadays and may are questionable. "Free" classes taught in stores, bars, etc are often primarily used as marketing opportunites and gym and fitness center yoga is often not ideal. In order for the profound benefits of yoga to manifest in your life, you need regular guidance and practice and a yoga studio is the best place to find it.

Explain your personal goals and intentions and be open with the counselor or teacher about any injuries, emotional/physical/mental health conditions. Let the teacher know what your yoga experience level is. Too many students hop into advanced practice classes when they are not ready which can lead to disappointment, discouragement or even injury. Take your time and enjoy the process! Start at the beginning (best advice ever) and work toward advancement in whatever way suits your needs -- whether that means you are seated in a chair or standing on your hands. Yoga helps us work with our egos in a compassionate & self-respecting way; no comparisons, no judgments, no expectations. Balance, harmony & self compassion are the rule.
