About
I teach traditional violin and viola to students from age 7 to adult, with emphasis on reading skills, technique and musical style. My Studio is located in my home in Montgomery, Ohio. I have been on the faculty at the Wyoming Center for the Arts since 1997, and have also taught at Cincinnati Country Day School, Indian Hill High School and Fairfield High School. I am a member of the Ohio Federation of Music Clubs and regularly send students to participate in the OFMC Junior Festival every spring.
I received my Bachelor of Music degree from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where I studied with Ivan Galamian, Jaime Laredo and Jascha Brodsky. I received my Master of Music degree from Indiana University at Bloomington, where I studied with Josef Gingold. I have been coached in chamber music by members of the Guarneri, Curtis and Budapest Quartets. I spent 6 summers at the Meadowmount Summer Music Camp, one summer at the Blossom Music Festival and 2 terms at the Cleveland Chamber Music Seminar.
I was a member of the First Violin section of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra for 20 years. From 2003-2004, I served as Concertmaster in the Cincinnati Community Orchestra. I also played in the Musica Sacra orchestra for many years. Currently, I play viola in a string quartet and electric violin in the Queen City Klezmorim, a group specializing in Jewish klezmer music.I am also an active performer and Board member of Matinée Musicale Cincinnati.
In addition to music, my passions are photography, web design and video production. You can learn more about my background and policies on my website at http://gmbmultimedia.com/BassinStringStudio.html

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
If the student is a beginner, I usually start with the method book, "Essential Elements for Strings, Violin Book 1". Once the student starts to catch on with the basics, I add the Suzuki Violin School books for solo pieces. For more advanced students, I will assess his/her technical level and assign an etude book and/or scale book to help them reach the next level. After Suzuki Book 6, I assign the standard violin literature: concertos, short pieces and sonatas, in addition to more advanced etude books. I can also help with orchestra music and sight-reading if the student is playing in an orchestra.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
