I am classically trained violinist with a bachelors degree in modern violin from Miami University and a pending Master's degree in historical performance from the IU Jacobs School of Music. I have given public performances in solo, orchestral and chamber situations in the USA and in Europe. I teach violin lessons to students of any age or level of experience, specializing in classical and baroque styles of training. I take a holistic approach, seeking opportunities to teach you music theory, history, and skills in improvisation. I absolutely love what I do, and I'm excited for the opportunity to share with you what I know!
I love the way music can serve as a jumping off point for studying anything! Music can teach you math, history, philosophy, art, and more. I am a performer because my favorite way to communicate with other people is through music, and this is also the reason I love to teach!
Shelby is a skilled and caring pedagogue devoted to her students’ growth and development. She has a comprehensive approach to multiple styles of playing and her training in historical performance made the lessons particularly eye opening. She enhanced my playing and helped me grow both musically and technically. I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking lessons for all levels, and particularly those wishing to understand the stylistic aspects of playing Baroque music.
